President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Tuesday said that life today is impossible without production of energy and called for serious steps in the process of energy production, transmission and consumption in the country. 
Inaugurating the Sixth National Energy Symposium titled 'New Approaches to Production and Consumption of Energy', President Ahmadinejad added that human dependence on energy is growing more than ever.
Ahmadinejad added the 40 percent of the local energy consumption is used in generating electricity while 51 percent is used in the transportation sector and these rates are very high. He added that plans should be made to decrease them.
He called for efforts to replace fossil fuel, which cause pollution, by clean energy sources.
The president expressed his government's full support for applying inventions and researches in the country and called on the energy minister and his colleagues to try to increase the efficiency of researches by putting them into practical use.
Prior to the president's address, Energy Minister Parviz Fattah explained the performance of the ministry in generating electricity and the conditions of electricity production and consumption in the country.
The Sixth National Energy Symposium which was held in the Research Center of the Ministry of Energy on Tuesday was attended by the president, minister of energy, his deputies and managers as well as Iranian university researchers.
